Pearl Assurance 1978 to 1987

My first experience of insurance was with Pearl Assurance.

Pearl was an industrial branch insurer which largely sold insurance through agents visiting customers in their home. It had about 100,000 motor polices and 1 million home policies. From January 1978 to October 1987 I worked in the General Insurance statistics team. The last 3 years he was team leader of the team of 5 analysts and support staff.

Although primarily focused upon pricing for motor insurance, the role also included pricing and analytical support for home insurance, personal accident, extended warranty and small commercial insurance packages.

The role also included being a member of the project team developing a computerised general insurance administration system.

In additional, I supported the pricing for Pearl's venture into the broker market with Hallmark Insurance
